if you just want to clean the tape deck head, use a cotton swab and some rubbing alcohol.. be sure to let it dry good before putting a tape in!

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I don't know what kind of cassette unit your talking about but when I used to work with audio reel to reel and cassette type units where you could see and touch the heads. I would demagnetize them manually and clean the heads with a cue tip and pharmaceutical grade isopropyl alcohol. Not regular isopropyl which is only about 70% alcohol but pharmaceutical grade which is at least 91% pure alcohol. Use a very light touch and go light on the amount of alcohol as well. Do not under any circumstances use "rubbing alcohol" which is usually less than 70% pure and often contains oils and scents for the body. If the unit is one of the non vhs type video cassette recorders (or playback units) you have to use a cleaning cassette made for that type unit. If Best Buy can not get you what you need. Try one of the big electronics stores in NYC that deal with professional and international types of equipment.
