• You can use the speaker strictly as a bluetooth only connection for listening to music, etc. However, to use the Google Assistant, it must be connected to wi-fi.

• The Google home assistant uses your WiFi to connect to the internet - so WiFi is needed. That does not mean that you can not use your cell phone as a WiFi source - but bluetooth is not going to work
