With great difficulty, it sort of works with Google Home. You can use the Insignia Connect App to get one plug to work. However, good luck getting more than that to register with Google Home... or even with Insignia for that matter. Even with just one plug, plan on a 2 hour set up. The trick seems to be install, see that it isn't working, reset, install, see that it isn't working... repeat until you want to scream and then, as if it can sense your frustration, it might work. Once it does work, however, it works forever. Just don't ever go into the Insignia app again or download an update ever.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Works great with Google Home without a hub. I installed three Google Home Minis this weekend, then bought two if these plugs. Only took me maybe 15 minutes to get both plugs up and running. First, you focus on the Insignia Connect app (download the app, create or login to your Best Buy account). Then plug in the plug to an outlet - I did mine in the same room as my router to ensure there is a strong wifi signal. Add the new plug to the insignia app. Repeat for each additional Insignia plug. Remember to name each device with distinctive names. To get it to work on Google Home - assuming you already have Google Home up and running - you go into the Google Home App - go into the drop down menu, select Home Control (which will launch Google Assistant), + to add a new device, select Insignia Connect, login to Insignia Connect... and that's it. I also use Samsung's SmartThings with their hub - but Insignia is not compatible with the Samsung SmartThings hub.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It does indeed work with Google Home and no hub is needed
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, this can be used with Google Home.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I had no problem hooking up two of these to my google home mini.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes ! It works very well with Google Home. You don't need a smart hub. Additionally, you can control your Insignia devices using Google Assistant app even if you are not having Google Home.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This does not need any sort of hub and mine works perfectly with my Google Home and my Google Home Mini. It has its own app so you don't need the Google Home to turn it on and off but the Google Home adds the voice control. Through the Insignia Connect app you can even set timers or turn on/off while away from home. Overall this took me minutes to set up and after saying "Okay Google, turn the Christmas Tree on" and it lit right up, I went back and bought 3 more.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Unfortunately, I'm not sure. I have an echo dot and it does work with Alexa. With Alexa it doesn't need a smart hub.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You don’t need a hub but you do need to register with Insignia. For some reason, registering the device is extremely inconsistent. Learn how to factory reset (hold on-off switch down for several seconds), and try registering the device when it fails. It takes 2 to 10 retries and a lot of patience. I was able to register the first plug quickly by moving close to my WiFi modem but the second one took a lot of retries. After an hour, both plugs (light and my iron) were registered and connected with Google Home and really works great! I haven’t been able to combine several commands into one “turn all devices off” command but you can say to Google Home: “ok Google, turn the light on and turn the iron on”. I haven’t found a way to use with IFTTT.
