Yes, they have music controls like forward/stop etc. and not just volume control.

For the iphone, tapping the center button pauses/unpauses play of the last audio program. Holding the center button till it beeps summons Siri. Upper and lower buttons raise and lower the volume with a tap and will usually fast forward or rewind on a long press, but may skip forward and back tracks, depending on the program being controlled.
