No, it wouldn't. There's enough space for the speakers to freely move even when standing vertically.

Please try again later.Hello Ernesto, As an owner of multiple JBL's, a person that has done hours of research on passive radiators ("subwoofers", because there are only full-range speakers and passive bass radiators on the charge 3), JBL, taken apart their portable speakers, and their portable and professional audio equipment, I can say that it does damage it in the long term. to understand the reason behind this, you first have to understand how a passive radiator works. when a speaker produces sound, the air outside is moved, as well as the air inside. all speakers with passive radiators have their interior completely airtight, so the leftover energy goes to pushing what essentially is a glorified plastic plate with some rubber or foam around it outwards, creating movement and creating sound. if you do not believe me, make a hole more than 1cm in your speaker with a passive radiator, and you will notice that the passive radiators will not move as much or stop moving altogether. you will notice that the reason behind this is quite simple: the passive radiator is a precisely weighted (to produce the best bass response in conjunction with the drivers) piece of plastic (flip 4, flip 5, clip 3, charge 4, Xtreme 2, etc.) or metal (on Flip 3, Xtreme, Charge 3, etc.), which is suspended by a rubber surround (on all authentic JBL portable speakers). due to the weight, when placed vertically, one stretches the surround outwards and the other inwards. the outward and inward motion affects the delicate tuning of the passive radiator, resulting in permanent (but little) damage. standing your speaker vertically also results in less excursion for your top passive radiator. standing it up momentarily is fine. and if you want the bass response, I suggest that you put your charge 3 on a shelf, and push one side against the side of the shelf. this results in the same bass response, but no damage to your passive radiators. another option is to put the whole speaker in a large, wooden box, which amplifies the bass very well. for a size reference, I have my flip 4 in a desk drawer of a large desk, and it sounds like I have a sub. I know some people may tell you otherwise, but I have experienced this first hand when I left my flip 4 standing for a few days and realized that I had permanently crippled its bass response. in conclusion, no, it is not safe to put your JBL vertically for long periods, even though a few seconds will be fine, but I suggest not going over a minute.
