Your friend can use the left Joycon in his right hand. As long as you and your friend have a Joycon in the hand that mirrors the Coach's colored hand, you'll be able to play whether it's a right Joycon or a left one.

It mainly focuses on the movement of the controller, not which hand it’s in. Just make sure you both stand in front of the sensor! Hope this helps.
