• No, WIRED carplay isn't compatible with MagSafe. You'll need to plug your iPhone into your stereo directly for carplay, which means you don't need the MagSafe charger. But you can still use it as a mount only.

• yes. the car play function isn't dependent on MagSafe with this device, you still have to bluetooth connect device to car with or without this mount. the magsafe (besides being a magnet to support your phone) only serves as a charger when it comes to its functions. you could ideally plug in you phone via lighting port and still us the MagSafe mounts main purpose.
