A:Answer Yes, you can use it without a cell phone. In fact, I didn't know you could use it with a phone (though, it might be a great convenience if you could). Other than of course if you're viewing the SD card (memory card) using the memory card slot on your phone, I don't believe it needs a phone to function.
There are two ways to retrieve video recordings from the unit:
First is with a Kenwood receiver (radio). If paired with a compatible unit with a screen, you can view video recordings through that unit. In fact, you can control functions of the camera best this way - through the radio.
Next method is with a PC (computer). But this will require you to take the SD card out of the camera, and plug it into your computer. Kenwood provides an application that you can download, which allows you to view recordings recorded to an SD card.
I'm not sure if there are Kenwood head units that allow you to save your recordings to the Cloud. If there are, it's probably through Apple or Google integration. I haven't explored those features yet (if they exist). That's the only other way I can think of to use this unit with a "phone". Albeit not directly.
