The machine has a light that comes on to tell you it's time to descale the machine, the process consist of adding descaling solution ( citric acid ) and water to the machine water supply and letting it soak, and then running the solution through the machine. Instructions on how to do this are included with the machine. The solution is sold separately.

Descaling regularly removes mineral build up that can affect taste and quality, ensuring your Keurig® brewer brews a perfect cup, every time. Depending on the mineral content of your water, calcium deposits or scale may build up in your brewer. Scale is non-toxic but if left unattended can hinder brewer performance. Regularly descaling your brewer every 3-6 months helps maintain the heating element, and other internal parts that come in contact with water. Calcium deposits may build up faster, making it necessary to descale more often. We hope this helps!
