There’s a removable drip tray where the cup is placed. With the tray, there’s about 6 inches clearance. Removing the tray adds about another inch (for tall travel mugs/cups).

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Hello Coffeeluvr, You can use a 5 1/2 inch high mug, but the machine only makes 1 cup/8oz only. I use tall mugs just to avoid the splatter. I love my Kureq Mini Plus but the only slight negative - it like to splatter around itself. I had a friend make a wooden base to raise it up for my short mugs to avoid mess :) I hope this was helpful!
