The callout size on a speaker is typically derived from the diameter measurement of the outer edge of the mounting basket. These call-out sizes are based on the required size to fit the majority of factory speaker openings called that particular size, not the woofer/midrange cone size. As an example, the KICKER 47KSC504 basket measures 5.25" across the diameter of the outer basket, the woofer/midrange cone itself is smaller than this measurement to fit in the frame.
