hdmi is an audio and video connector. With just one cable you have hd video and hq audio. Hdmi input usuali located on the back of the tv means you can plug an hdmi cable that comes from the output of a dvd or blue ray disc player. In other words you need the hdmi cable to go out from the dvd blueray(output) and connect it to the input of the tv so that it gets the audio and video in. Hope that helps

Please try again later.HDMI is an acronym that means "High Definition Multimedia Interface" It's a new "all in one" plug solution that lets you just plug ONE single plug in for an audio and video feed. It's very versatile in that you can use this one single plug for. It will let you plug this is for a computer monitor, television, as well as connecting devices to the television like a DVD, Blu-Ray player, gaming device, etc. The difference between HDMI input and output is very easy. Input is if you want to plug in a DVD, Blu-Ray Player, or gaming device INTO the monitor, television, or any other device into that system. HDMI output is simply the opposite. It will let you send a video and audio signal to whatever device your wanting to plug in on the other end.
