The "LP" part stands for "Low Power," because this type of RAM uses less voltage than is typical of RAM. The gains include increased battery life and reductions in weight and space. However, the tradeoff is that this design requires direct soldering to the motherboard. Only someone with extremely refined skills (and tools) would be capable of exchanging these modules.
