You need to PRESS the Function Key while also pressing the LEFT side of the Space Bar, where you see that light bulb (with rays?) symbol.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You must have bought a used one. A new one has a sheet between the keyboard and monitor -- before disposing of it surely it can't be missed at the left corner in 1/8 inch tall letters that pressing the Fn key with the spacebar (the icon shown is at the left end of the spacebar) toggles the keyboard backlight modes. One of those modes (the default mode) is backlight off. The other two modes are backlight on (low and high intensity). When you change modes, an icon briefly appears on the screen to indicate the selected mode, which you should be able to confirm by viewing the keyboard. Also the brief get started guide indicates the Fn + spacebar purpose, as does the downloadable userguide PDF document.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The keyboard backlit is not working unless you pressed the right shortcut for it thats in the manual guide. Otherwise it is best to return it and get a new one or to get a different laptop.
