The air purifier and its filters (specifically the activated carbon filter) should help remove trace amounts of formaldehyde from the air. Additionally, any sources of formaldehyde should be professionally removed; the air purifier is only meant to act as a supplement to other safe practices and should not be the only source of air cleaning if there is active pollution from some other source.

Carbon filter can remove some but not all formaldehyde. Don't trust consumer air cleaner for dangerous toxic. Please use gas mask specifically for VOC like formaldehyde from 3M for safety.
