• No it cannot, levoit explains in the manual as well, but has to stand straight up, but has a great design, and levoit recommends on each side to leave about 15 inches or so of space on the sides for optimal performance and also for the best air flow and circulation, but even if you don’t put it exactly like that it still works great Super happy with mine

• No, I don't think it would operate well that way because air is intended to flow out of the top (gray panel grate).

• We do not recommend placing the unit flat or on its side. When using the air purifier, allow at least 15 inches / 38 cm of clearance from the front of the air purifier. Keep away from anything that would lock air flow, such as curtains.
