• This washer does have a direct drive motor. While I'm not sure of the number of speeds I do know it has different speeds for a regular wash, delicate wash and there are other programs. On regular wash the high speed spinning takes almost all the water out of the fabric. Drying time is reduced because of the efficiency of this washer. We are very happy with this washer.

• It does have a direct drive motor, but I have not counted how many spin cycles there are.
