• You may use powdered soap, but it must be placed inside the drum with each load.

• Wow, unfortunately you received two incomplete answers. The automatic dispensers are for liquid HE detergent and liquid fabric softener only. You can manually push the detergent dispenser level button to turn off the auto dispenser for a particular load (see page 31 of manual). When you turn off the dispenser, you can add liquid or powder detergent to the manual dispenser tray located in the main detergent compartment. (see page 22 of manual). There is no need to add the powdered detergent directly into the wash tub. The only products you want to consider adding directly into the wash tub are for prewash, such as oxiclean or vinegar, etc..
