HDR is a technology that has become more common in most mid-range and high end 2016 and 2017 4K Ultra HD TVs, streaming services like Nteflix and on Ultra HD Blu-ray players. It expands the range of both contrast and color significantly. Bright parts of the image can get much brighter, so the image seems to have more "depth." Colors get expanded to show more bright blues, greens, reds and everything in between to offer a more realistic, natural image than what's possible with other types of TV.
