No, you don't need to hook it up to water but it comes with the parts needed to split a water feed off the water connection for your washing machine. The steam feature is actually quite nice for taking out wrinkles from cottons and even things like suit pants or sportscoats. I just put it in the dryer while I take a shower, cycle runs 10 minutes and the items are much less wrinkled. Haven't pulled out the ironing board since getting the dryer and using this feature.

There is no water reservoir for the steam function on this model. In fact, this dryer comes with a water hose kit to connect into the cold water hose from the washing machine to the dryer. BEST BUY gave you the correct answer. I can't believe LG gave you incorrect information.

Ft. 12-Cycle Smart Wi-Fi Electric SteamDryer™ - Sensor Dry and TurboSteam™ Technology - Graphite Steel, Model # DLEX3700V does not have a water inlet valve that has to be connected to a water supply line to provide water for the steam functions. IT has a Steam Feeder that has to be manually filled with potable water before you are going to use the steam functions if you intend to use the steam functions/options/cycles. If you do not intend to use any of the steam functions, options or steam cycles, you do not need to fill the steam feeder with water, but you also need to make sure you do not initiate any steam options/cycles or steam functions...^IFV
