HI: We had a hard time deciding on a microwave. We enjoyed a Kenmore with a number pad for 10years and liked the pull door (not the push button like on many models today. What do we do???? This LG does not have a pad but it is easy to add up 30 seconds touch spot at a time and a plus 10 seconds minus touch slider all just a push button on the front..( actually just a touch it's not a button)...It also has when you open the door ( a way to add and subtract according to weight) a number of thaw and cook settings for std items..look at the manual to understand what they mean..it's actually easy once ya get the method...This Micro does not feel cheep...looks great ...cooks really nice and warms thing well...light inside is pretty good as well. We did consider the Samsung but it is dark inside and the other one was one of the better Panasonic...depending on your budget/size you may want to check out the Kenmore Elite..we needed nothing bigger than a 1.4/1.5 to fit in our Microwave Cupboard spot. This one was a bit more but it does not feel cheep..OH and my wife likes the little lite melody when it signals you,..very pleasant. Ya it could use conventional numbers..but ?? the overall microwave LG..is very nice..Try to get to a box store ( a couple of them and just play a bit with them) many seem really lite weight..We are happy we got this one but you will find plus and minuses with most of them...hope this helps...we would buy it again
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You mean a numeric keypad? No. it has up/down buttons with what I'll call "multiplier logic" and a touch slide bar, which are faster to operate than you might think. The up/down buttons start out at +/- 10 second increments, with the increment increasing to 30 seconds at ten minutes and up to 1 minute at 20 minutes. After a short hold-down period the numbers auto repeat, just like your computer keyboard. The touch slider (I like to call it the "time line") on the front panel has +/- buttons on each end, but you can swipe left/right too, just as if it was a wheel, and the time increments operate just like the buttons. For even better speed, the time indexer is fully rotary in nature, so if you swipe left from a standing start the time goes directly to 90 minutes, and you can "spin down" from there for longer cook times. If you put food in the oven and shut the door, you can set time with a single swipe or two of the touch slider - again, very fast. To set power, you can touch the time touch pad then immediately touch the power pad, then shut the door. The touch slider now works to control power: set the power you want, then hit Start. The microwave starts operating with 10 seconds on the clock. You can hit Start to add 30 seconds, or you can swipe the touch slider which has now reverted to time mode. This control scheme was well though out, and becomes intuitive very quickly. I had a Panasonic inverter microwave for many years before my LG, and the one thing I hated about it was having to stab at the power button like a madman to get the power down to 10 or 20% to soften butter. With this guy, if I touch the power button it starts at "P-Hi", which is 100%, but the power control is circular, like the time, so a single tap on + sets it to 10%.. That feature alone makes me smile every time.
