Oh no! It sounds like your magnetron tube has given up the ghost. I got five years out of my last microwave, and about four years from the previous. In both cases I briefly smelled smoke when they quit heating. Good luck and I hope it turns out to be something trivial. I ended up replacing my burned out microwave with an LG that has a 10-year warranty.

When your microwave turns on but will not heat, it could be caused by a problem with the high voltage diode, which helps to power the magnetron, or it could be due to a broken magnetron. The magnetron is the part that makes the heat to cook the food. If it is broken, it may blow a fuse in your microwave which could lead to other components failing. The unit will require a repair service to replace the diode or the magnetron. Our Support Center at (800) 243-0000 can assist you in making arrangements to have the unit repaired. The unit is still under warranty. It has 1 Year for Parts and Labor (In Home Service), and 10 Years Limited on the Magnetron (In Home Service). You will need to have a bill of sale or receipt for proof of purchase to establish that it is within the time period that it is warranted for from date of purchase.
