“is there a plastic film to peel off on the front of the monitor?”

• Not on the screen or the front anywhere, but the sides of the bezel has plastic when you look at the edge of the monitor.

• Regrettably, I cannot say for certain there is a protective covering on this monitor. Some monitors have a protective film for shipping that should be removed and some do not. ^Daphane
