My monitor is only a couple of months old, so no way for me to tell if it's possible in the long term. I doubt it, however, because my LG OLED TV is over a year old and shows not evidence of this happening.

It might take some minor adjustments to make it look good. As I said, it was really bad on my mac. Especially colored text in Intellij. This is due to "Font Smoothing" a setting which makes text look beautiful on a retina display. For reference, retina displays have a high pixel density compared to OLEDs. To fix this, you'll just need to reduce or turn off font smoothing via the terminal. Obviously, don't copy and paste anything into the terminal from a stranger on the internet. Search for a guide for "turning off apple font smoothing". In most situations you'll only notice it if you put your nose 10" (260 mm) from the screen. Optimal viewing distance is 800 mm (800R curvature = a radius of 800 mm) for this model. If eye strain is an issue for you, I'd be much more concerned with the intensity of the blue light the OLEDs are dumping into your retinas. Get some blue blocking reading glasses for work. Also, adjust the OS UI scale as needed to ensure reading is comfortable at the viewing distance.

Thank you for your thoughtful question about the LG 39GS95QE-B Gaming Monitor and its potential for text fringing, especially when used for long hours of work. We understand your concern regarding OLED technology and text rendering. OLEDs are known for their exceptional contrast ratio and vibrant color accuracy, which can enhance visual clarity, but you're right in noting that text fringing (or slight blurring around edges of text) can sometimes be noticed, especially when using an OLED display for extended periods or in certain scenarios. The LG 39GS95QE-B features True Black and Factory Calibration, which can help improve text sharpness, and the Reader Mode is also available to reduce eye strain during long work hours. To ensure the best experience, we recommend using the Reader Mode when working with text-heavy content, as it optimizes the display for prolonged reading sessions and can help minimize any potential discomfort. https://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-39gs95qe-b-gaming-monitor#pdp_specs If you have any other concerns or need assistance with further settings adjustments, please send us a private message on Social Media @LGUSSupport, and our team will be more than happy to help.
