Does this protect the screen? null

It has a lip all the way around but if it hits a rock your screen could be affected

No. You have to have an external screen protector for that. The case goes over all but the screen and is amazing. Very protective. The Fre case by Lifeproof does go over the screen, however, the touch capability does not do well with it. The Next case, because you put your own screen protector on it, works well with the touch features.

It does not have a screen protector built in, but the edges are raised, so if you lay it down on the screen on a flat surface it will not touch.
