It doesn't give wifi service, rather it reuses and existing wifi connection (and provides encryption and your own SSIDs) .

When the EA6350 is configured, you'll be able to connect multiple devices both wired and wireless to the network. For further queries, send us an email at [email protected].

When I installed my older Linksys router, I did not have to get my ISP involved. Just plug the modem into the router, and plug the router into your computer's RJ45 port. However, when I installed my own modem a few years ago, I did have to get Comcast to activate it. Bottom Line: Keep your receipt and take it back if it doesn't work or doesn't increase your connect speeds (download and upload). Comcast rents what they call a "gateway" internet modem. They put a modem and router into one box.
