This appears to be a Mesh Router system with 2 nodes, either of which can be used as the main incoming router, the other is a wireless node used to either spread the signal from the main router or back feed a wireless signal to the main router. an extender only works one way just extends the signal. I have pretty much the same system and it works out to cover at least cover 5000 sq ft, which covers everything we use wirelessly. or Voip .
