It remains on while charging or turns red when battery is low, off all other times.

The light on the bottom stays on solid to let you know its connected. If blinking then you lost connection or will have to reestablish. The switch on the bottom of the mouse is color coded; green for on and red for off. The mouse does go into stasis but still uses a small amount of energy to sustain itself.

If its red you need to recharge the mouse's battery. It has a built in timer to prevent the light from being on more than a few seconds. You can read about all its features online at logitech.com.
