They will have you sign up for their "Student mailing list" and you'll get coupons that sometimes include Apple products, but you'd have to wait for the coupon to come through email, they won't just give you the student discount if you ask for it. At least that's how it was a couple of years ago so maybe it's changed!

What needs to be done is for the student to register through the BestBuy.com website as a student and get the appropriate number to show prior to the purchase. Assuming the educational institution is on the list of colleges shown. I have seen a couple in the past that were not on the list for some reason.
