• A:Answer My understanding is for radio specific functions, no, you don't need the Maestro. You only need the maestro if you want to keep steering wheel controls & the various speed, tire pressure, and other gauges.

• A:Answer I have a 2008 Aspen. The radio that was in the vehicle was the sales code RER. Best Buy and I tried two different harnesses for that vehicle. The first one was for a radio with out Amplifier. (I thought mine did not have an amp.) What I can tell you is that the system works fine now. Some things are not available now (Rear entertainment, Nav, etc) but the important things work such as Steering wheel control and backup camers. I have only had the new system for a short time and am still learning about it.
