Some older alarm systems require a phone line because of the fact that they work when the power goes out. Older phone lines are very reliable (believe it or not). MagicJack uses the internet to create a phone line instead of a physical wire in the ground. The issue with this is that MagicJack works fairly well for voice but when it comes to everything else it wasn't really designed for it. The only professional recommended options are to switch your alarm service to something that doesn't require a phone line or make sure to have a traditional (copper) phone line. I know this might not be what you wanted to hear but I hope I answered your question.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. My phoneline was connected to the alarm before i purchased voIP but i had to have it shifted to a wireless alarm which costs me about $5 more from my alarm company and since magicjack has a 12 month subscription included you are still saving money.
