Some older alarm systems require a phone line because of the fact that they work when the power goes out. Older phone lines are very reliable (believe it or not). MagicJack uses the internet to create a phone line instead of a physical wire in the ground. The issue with this is that MagicJack works fairly well for voice but when it comes to everything else it wasn't really designed for it. The only professional recommended options are to switch your alarm service to something that doesn't require a phone line or make sure to have a traditional (copper) phone line.
