Is this single player null

Nintendo's own website has it listed as a single player game. Where as mario odyssey is listed as 1-2, luigis mansion 3 is listed as 1-8. I'd say its safe to say a 2nd play will not be able to pick up the controller and control Luigi.

Given the previous games were all single player, I would say this will probably also be.
