Hi Suzy, you are able to see the heating element in the bottom of the dishwasher. As long as you use dishwasher safe plastic your plastic items will be fine. Hopefully this information is beneficial to you. Thank you for your inquiry regarding our Maytag appliances!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Not sure what the heating coil would be, but I put my kids plastic dishes on the top rack and haven't had any issues. Now there is a setting to make it hotter, maybe that's what they meant. I set it to normal with heated dry and no issues.
