Just had this issue. I am sure you figured this out by now but for others...... Pop cap off top of agitator. There is a bolt at the bottom you have to remove. (ratchet set with long extension). Wiggle the agitator a bit to work it loose. Just had 3/4 of a bed sheet that got stuck in there.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I had a satin pillow case jammed in the agitator. Is was in the seam closest to the outside of the basket. It took a while and several work breaks, but the edge of the agitator will give a little at that gap. Pushing down on the inside edge I was slowly able work the pillow case out.

What a horrible design - it's eaten up pillowcases, underwear and anything soft that a woman might wear. Also, there's never enough water spitting in the machine to ever cover the clothes so they don't get completely clean. Shame on you Maytag!
