Most older homes have the 3 prong cord outlet at the wall but sometime around the year 2000 the government made all dryers accept a 4 cord prong as standard..your still able to hook up a 3 cord prong but both 3 and 4 cord prong systems are hooked up differently to the dryer itself..The owners manual shows each way to wire your dryer depending which outlet you have on the wall..Only other thing you can do is have an electrician or someone who knows how to change your outlet at the wall to accept a 4 cord prong wire but all dryers made today are for 4 corded wiring..still able to hook up the 3 prong though ..just follow the instructions in the manual for the system you have at the wall..
