Our headphones tend to run a bit on the smaller side, judging from the ratio of feedback we get from the "head is too big for these headphones" and the "head is too small for these headphones" camps. But unfortunately a linear measurement will not give you enough information to know if they will stay in place or not, since that largely depends on how well the band conforms to your head shape and how tight the clamping force is. Ultimately, the best way to check is to try them and take advantage of the return policy if they don't fit you better than your Sonys.
