• Oculus is owned entirely by Facebook so it requires you to use your Facebook account in order to access the Oculus Store and the other services. You can't use the device without signing in and connecting it to your Facebook account.

• People were naturally in uproar about this. The company was persuaded to make the shift to no FB account needed just to broaden their buying audience. Once they have enough cheaper units out to everyone, customers will want to sign up Meta to engage with the planned Metaverse environment.
