Nope, its a stand alone headset! Great gift!! Just need wifi to download games and an outlet to charge. Then battery's for the controllers once in a blue moon and your all set!

If you get custom controllers and modify the headband or get a custom one you should be fine. The community is as about average when it comes to toxicity. However you can mute the voice chat and yourself by pressing the 3 bar button on the left controller, Then you go to settings then audio and muting the microphone and allowing only audio for people you know. If they get motion sick easy then avoid VR get then a PS5 instead PS5 pro should be coming out soon it's about $100 more and has more long-term playability. The PS5 also has VR capability if you get the headset for it for when they get older and can fit into it or better handle the motion sickness a lot of people experience.
