I have an aftermarket radio with the reverse gear wire (purple/white stripe). I also have the short red wire. I tried connecting the short red wire to the harness and it works. However, the red wire that runs all the way back to the camera, keep the reverse lights on. Imagine that. Just as a test, I connected it to the rear lights. They came on. I unhooked the red wire and the lights came off. However, I am stuck. I have no idea what is going on. Anyone with a good answer??? Thank you.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The red wire passes the reverse signal up to the front of the car. The camera end has a red and black wire which the red wire gets connected to the reverse light and the black gets connected to ground. Whatever screen you hook up to typically needs a reverse wire hooked up to it too so it knows when to display the camera. Instead of wiring it to the car somewhere, you can use the short red wire. That wire is the same red wire that is by the camera and should be hooked into the reverse light.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. That red wire is for head units that do not have a dedicated rear/backup camera wire. If your head unit has one dont use that red wire if u do not have a dedicated backup camera wire (purple) then attach that wire to the hot wire of ur rear reverse light!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It is used to indicate when the car is in reverse.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The red wire is for power. Either connect to the backup wires in the car or the backup wire attached to the radio if you have an aftermarket radio.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You should ideally attach to backup light wire (if installing as a backup cam). Or to the red wire to keep it on always. Tons of YouTube videos out there that explains everything.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I put in a toggle switch next to my head unit and jumped off the 12V+ into the reverse cam singal wire. Which would mean i would back fead to the reverse light and be able to power the camera. Big mistake. That signal wire isnt designed for that ammount of voltage and I metered it out with only 2.7 volts. Good idea gone wrong. Camera still worked in reverse but when i tried the toggle it was showing a video error. I have to run a cable from the toggle to the red power cable on the cam directly.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It's the back up signal wire.
