It is powered by the the Surface Go itself.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.the keyboards do not have a built-in battery that needs to be charged separately. the keyboard draws power (for the BACKLIGHTING - very nice!) from the computer battery when it is "popped" on. Nothing to worry about like forgetting to charge your keyboard, or losing the Bluetooth connection - it is all direct connection for power and signal. The Microsoft Surface keyboard seems to be something that everyone agrees is well designed and "one of the best" out there for a detachable keyboard/trackpad. Hope this helps and Stay Safe!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. There is no separate power source for the Type Cover. It gets its power through a pin-connector matched to a pin-connector at the bottom of the Surface Go. The Type Cover snaps into place magnetically, which automatically mates the pin connectors, and it works very well.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It draws power from the tablet itself, no batteries required
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The tablet itself powers the keyboard. The keyboard connects to the Surface Go via tiny pogo pins on the bottom of the tablet. These pins transmit both power and data. Because of this, the keyboard doesn't require any additional power source; and you don't have to play with Bluetooth settings or anything to pair the keyboard to the tablet.
