S Mode is a more secure version of Windows 10 that allows you to download apps only from the Microsoft store. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Everything the MS rep said is accurate, but it leaves out the most important aspect of S mode. In S mode, Windows will neither install nor run traditional "desktop" applications. Instead, the OS is restricted to only apps acquired from the Windows store (those originally known as "Metro" apps in Win8 beta). For student devices issued by a school or other situations in which the end-user should not be permitted to install any applications, this is a wise precaution. For many users, however, being unable to run traditional apps is a deal-breaker. Fortunately, leaving S mode and, thus, enabling traditional apps is a simple and free process. Be advised, however, it's a one-time change and affects the device, not the user profile. That is, you cannot leave a child's account in S mode while the parent/admin isn't restricted by it, nor can you return the device to S mode after disabling it (at least, you cannot restore S mode without reinstalling the OS). -- Bob the Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT)
