I have not tried with the Surface Book 3, however I did try with the Surface Pro 7 which uses the same pen technology as the Surface Book 3. With the Pro 7, this pen works perfectly with only 2 provisos. 1) There are no (that I know of) interchangeable tips for this pen. 2) The pen is magnetic and will stick to the side of the Pro 7 but the magnets are very weak and it falls off easily. I would expect a similar situation with the Book 3 but I have not tried. I would recommend the regular surface pen for the Book 3 as it will stick to the side properly.

And the feel of writing is a little better with the original pen. The main benefit of this pen is being able to recharge it, and being smaller than the original. Works good with the surface pro x because the keyboard for that has a slot where the pen sits. With surface book it should work and have same functions. Just not as good as original in my opinion.
