Don't upgrade, just buy a hardcopy of Windows 10 and do a clean install. It is the best way to avoid problems.

I would strongly suggest that you upgrade the RAM to the most that your motherboard can support (Go to Dell's support site and check to see how much). Also, before upgrading, download the latest Windows 10 drivers from Dell for YOUR computer and burn them to a CD. Most likely, you won't need them, but it's handy to have just in case. I make a blanket statement as to whether or not your computer will upgrade without problems - each model that Dell (or any other manufacturer) sells has dozens of configurations. Normally, an upgrade from Windows 7 will be OK. If you're really afraid to tackle it yourself, take your PC to Geek Squad (I think Best Buy still has no charge if you buy the software from them). Be sure to back up all of your photos, music, and documents before the upgrade. If, in the worst case scenario, it doesn't work, you can always revert back to Windows 7. Hope this helps.
