• A:Answer No. It appears your primary disk (disk with Windows Pro installed) is corrupt. So try reformatting and reinstalling windows 10 Pro. You don't need new key.

• A:Answer You first need to make sure the hardware in the computer will support Windows 10. If so, you would need to do a clean install of Windows which means you need to back up your hard drive because you will need to erase the entire hard drive and then do the install. You cannot us a Windows upgrade version, you would need the full version. If you do not feel comfortable doing this then I would have then do the installation.

• A:Answer Yes, but it is not necessary to switch to Windows 10 Pro for a full reset. If the device was bought with Windows 10 Home, the license is built in the mainboard of the machine. So, as soon as you have the new disk and downloaded the install sources from Microsoft, you can run the setup and the machine itself will add the product code required for the activation. For the reset: if you can still open the settings app go 'Update & security > Recovery > Reset this PC' it has the option to remove all your changes. Once it is done it starts with fresh out-of-box experience as a newly bought machine.

Q: QuestionIf the laptop has Win 10 Home OEM plus Win 10 Pro Upgrade, could I reinstall Win 10 Pro onto a new hard drive if the original hard drive ever failed? Would I need to have made Win 10 Home OEM install media beforehand for that to work?

• A:Answer There is a fair chance the pro version will install just fine due to the nature of windows keys now. The key is locked to your motherboard so when you change hardware it doesn't cause a huge disruption in registration. If it doesn't work you would have to follow the same process as you stated before. If I had to guess I would say there is a very good (80% or better) chance it will just install without question.
