Basically yes. They did away with Gold to get people to buy Game Pass. I think they also got rid of the free games every month that Gold use to offer. They don't even offer this deal in their store which is ridiculous. If you don't want a monthly subscription based plan, this is the way to go

Xbox Live Gold Membership is compatible with all Xbox One consoles AND their two previous gaming console platforms. The original Xbox Console and the Xbox360.
