The form factor of the back is slightly different so you'll need a new charger as the back cover is different. That said older rechargeable packs can be charged separately and then installed in the controller. Another option is to buy a new Xbox Series rechargeable battery pack (using the cover the controller came with) an then charge it via USB-C. This time around there are two sets of battery pins inside. I'm guessing that it won't charge older packs or rechargeable AA batteries via USB-C so that people wouldn't damage their controller by accidentally charging standard AA batteries, hence the second set of charging pins.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Because the new Xbox controller is slightly smaller than older controllers, some third-party phone clips, batteries, and battery covers may not work. If you want to make your controller rechargeable, we recommend getting the Rechargeable Battery and USB-C Cable for Xbox Series X/S here: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/microsoft-rechargeable-battery-usb-c-cable-for-xbox-series-x-and-xbox-series-s-black/6430661.p?skuId=6430661
