You can open the back of the controller and take the batteries out or hold the power button on your controller and press A on turn off controller.

Easiest way is holding down the home button and turning it off from there.

Open up the back plate on the controller and remove the batteries. If the controller is paired with an xbox console, hold down on the xbox logo on the controller for 1-3 seconds. A menu should pop up, then choose the "turn off controller" option.

Hold the Xbox button until the screen pops up and select turn off controller… or just take out a battery
