Nope, mine is right behind the media chest 1 foot off the ground. Picked up 100 channels in Houston.

The basement has NO WINDOWS, and the signal is great - good HD and clear, sharp picture, AND the picture doesn't break up any more than the one upstairs. You'd just have to experiment with placement and angle.
