So far my answer is yes. Mine is under a covered porch as well and I have plenty of activity at my front door and have not needed to change battery.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Hello Aandaar, The Solar Charger requires a certain amount of direct sunlight in order to power the Ring Video Doorbell 3 or 3 Plus. You should avoid mounting the Solar Charger on porches or in shady areas. The Solar Charger is just a power source. As soon as you plug it into the Ring Video Doorbell it starts working but only provides power when getting direct sunlight. For any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out on our community forum at https://community.ring.com/. Thanks, Alexis with Ring

Since the solar cells are fairly small, if you can't mount it in some way to at least get several hours of sunlight hitting it, it probably will not be able to keep the battery charged.
