Just to update my previous answer: Even if the included M.2 drive was a SATA SSD, I figured it would be still be worthwhile to purchase the laptop, plus another 500GB NVME M.2 SSD (opted for Samsung 970 Evo Plus, for $129.99), to equal $2429.98, which comes out only slightly more ($30.98) than the GS75 Stealth-203 from Amazon for $2399.00 (with only a 250gb NVME SSD). Seeing as how even the cheapest 500gb M.2 SATA drives cost around > $60, I'd still come out ahead and with a bigger (and likely better performing) NVME SSD, with a SATA SSD for other storage. That being said, I bought the laptop (and the 970 Evo Plus) and upon opening, noted that it was a Kingston SSD, but with part number SNS8154P3/512GJ. Per Kingston's data sheet (https://media.kingston.com/pdfs/emmc/MKF-815_design-in_SSD_lr.pdf), this is still a 512GB NVME SSD (albeit around 30-50% slower than an Evo Plus). Not sure if Jordan's Kingston SSD was really a SATA SSD or maybe it was mis-read/assumed to be SATA SSD.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Jordan thank you for the insight, since the description under the photos says "An Intel Core i7 processor and 16GB of system memory deliver responsive operation, while the 512GB NVMe solid-state drive ensures fast read and write times." You should go back to best buy and demand an NVMe drive to replace the SATA one they quietly included. Comparison shopping, you think you are getting more value over other configurations which have the 256 NVMe at a higher price, but it turns out that's not the case, once you open the case. Further, if you want the OS on an NVMe drive it will be a big hassle to move it over to a new one.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It has a 512GB M.2 but it is not NVMe. I exptected it to be NVMe but when I opened it to add my own drives I saw that it had a Kingston SATA drive installed.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It's supposed to be 512gb NVME, as advertised in the title. Even the official MSI spec sheet for Stealth-089 states 512gb NVME (taking up 1 of the 2 NVME M.2 slots, with 1 free SATA M.2 slot). If what Jordan states is true, then that's false advertising by both MSI and BestBuy...
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, that drive will be a 512GB NVMe SSD.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Update. I can also now confirm that it does look like a NVME drive, but one that is slower compared to others in the current market. The 2 slots that are horizontal support both SATA/NVME, with the verticle slot along the short edge of the battery only supporting SATA. I purchased a 1TB 970 EVO Plus as a second drive for data and it's working great. Note that it comes with WIN 10 Home, whereas the flavors with the 256GB NVME I believe come with Pro. Take that into cost consideration depending on your needs. The last consideration, is that all the 16GB memory flavors are 1 stick, so you are running single channel RAM, and to add another stick you will need to remove the motherboard to access the other side. Note that the fans on this laptop have a higher pitched whine to them vs less compact ones I've owned in the past. Do yourself a favor and run the fans at various speed in the store so you can evaluate if you are ok with the sound. Hope the additional info and images are helpful!
